Two different family members are dealing with major health issues and Tony and I have been trying our best to offer moral support. I hope that the many hours of visits and talking (more listening) help, but truly this is such a helpless feeling for us. We watch the cycle of life change.
Our water heater has given us trouble...at first it was the thermostat. We called in repairmen, they tried to secure new thermostat, but vendors kept laughing at them and questioning their reports that the heater is a 1963 model. Some kept asking the electrician to send them photos of the control panel with serial numbers, etc. Finally one manufacturer was able to provide a replacement. This process took about 6 weeks. In the interim, our water was scalding hot all the time...the heater just stayed on. We'd have to throw the circuit breaker to stop it, then do same to re-heat water when we needed it.
Today, however, we have the opposite problem. No hot water at all. Of course, the plumber told us initially that we'd probably have to replace the heater, and for that I wasn't surprised, but we did want to try the thermostat route first. Now, of course, we'll need to replace the heater. Does anyone want to take a bet that the new one will last 45 years? We won't be around to verify that.
Until this weekend, we've been snowless. Our NC family has had more snow that we have had,
but it's all over now. A week ago, we escaped with only rain the major ice storm that struck New England. Some folks are still without power and will continue to be without for another week or so. Last night, a snowstorm came in depositing about 10 inches of light fluffy snow. The children are enjoying sledding on our hill, and neighbors are trying to figure out how to remove snow from driveways with 3 broken snowblowers (ours and 2 of Machione's). It's still snowing. One day of respite, then another storm due on Sunday. So, to all the folks coming to New England for Christmas, it will probably still be white!
10 am Dec 20...
We've not had A for a visit for awhile...she's been involved in theater performances, school concerts and dance recitals. On Thursday, with the impending forecast of a major snowstorm, her school said that they would most likely be closing at noon on Friday and children could easily choose not to attend. Grammy and Grandpa took advantage of that and brought her back with us for the weekend. The first thing we did was to build our Gingerbread house, I had been afraid that that tradition was going by the wayside this year.
In addition to this, she had made some Christmas gifts, played with the neighbors, and entertained Grammy & Grandpa.
New Hope Academy held it's Christmas Concert last weekend. All of the children performed in one way or another.
