Ahhh! Spring!

What a glorious day! Sunny, warm (for us at 60+), birds chirping, children playing on scooters and bikes, and dad gardening for the first time since November. We have indeed had a long and cold winter and deserve this awakening of the earth and the promises of colorful blossoms and fresh garden vegetables. We're planning on planting peas early (maybe in a week or two as soon as the frost is out of the ground). Dad has some new lilies sprouting in the greenhouse that he's planning on using to fill in various areas of the yard with new color.

I've been sewing, as usual. This time I've made a new purse for Tony to take to Maria in Rome when the men travel at the end of April. Inside are matching cell-phone bag and tissue holder. Of course I couldn't let this go and had to make a new one for myself in bright spring raspberry colors. Now, with that in hand, I'm thinking of making a jacket, blouse, jumper, or some other new wardrobe item to coordinate. "Thinking" is the operative word. I always have more planned projects than I have time to complete. I'm adopting a plea from my grandmother who wrote in her journal "to ask the Good Lord for an extra 20 years to finish all that I'm planning", and "for an extra 24 hours a day that no one else knows about". Either will work for me.

My sisters and I have tried to gather together at least once a month (winter had put a halt to this for a few months) to spend the day sewing and sharing. For the past 2 months we've met in Acton and are working on a Crazy Quilt project. Will post pictures when these are completed.

And...to go over the top...Joyce and I are making new grocery totes for ourselves, to promote the Going Green incentive so popular right now. Since you can buy one at the grocery store for $1.00 (not nearly as attractive as ours), this requires us to justify to ourselves the effort and time, but then this is something in which we are very well experienced.
