Recently, my friends Joyce and Carol and I met with a group of folks in Uxbridge who have been actively raising monies for several years to buy supplies and pay for postage to send boxes to deployed troops. The 3 of us, along with 2 other quilters, have made a lovely queen sized bed quilt (pattern Burgoyne Surrounded) in red, white, and blue to be raffled off. We've charted a course for displaying the quilt and selling raffle tickets during the next year (raffle to be drawn January 2010). We've come up with lots of venues in our extended geographic area, identified newspapers and TV community bulletin boards to carry info and contacted many quilt shops that are willing to display the quilt and sell tickets. I've been designing the posters and displays. We will have available to the members of "Uxbridge Supports Our Troops" a storage box full of stuff (table covers, balloons, flag, posters, little postcards, etc., all in red/white/blue theme to draw attention to the displays at the various festivals. The table cover is designed, but not yet sewn. Pic of that coming. However, I did make new covers for 2 old directors' chairs that we've had in our barn; to be used by the 'sellers of tickets' at the festivals. Now, I'm thinking that we need to brighten up the old wood frames with a spray coat of blue paint. I love doing stuff like this...making new out of old for next to nothing. The chairs did come out pretty nice! ! !
