North Carolina visit

Tony, Adriana and I have spent 3 days here in Wake Forest with the Herbert family. We arrived on Monday afternoon, attended the first of the commissioning ceremonies on Tuesday evening at NC State U, where the cadets took their oaths, followed by a buffet dinner. Alex is now officially a 2nd LT in the US Army. He'll be going attached to the 1st Brigade 1st Cavalry at Fort Hood in TX after Ordinance training in Maryland next spring. He'll probably be in TX by late summer.

The commissioning ceremonies (2) were both very impressive. The first ceremony (Tuesday evening) was just Army commissioning, the 2nd (Wednesday evening) was for all 4 branches together.

NC State U graduation was held on Wednesday morning. It was held in a large arena to accomodate the large contingency of graduates, family and friends, and faculty. A brass ensemble provided music, along with 2 vocal groups (men's group sang National Anthem, women's sang at the end of the exercises).

With all this excitement over, we're now on to Christmas preparations. Tony, Adriana and I will be returning to MA on Friday.
